This guide helps users identify the five wetland classes, as well as their forms, using readily observable soil, vegetation and hydrology (water) characteristics in alignment with the Yukon Government’s Wetland Classification Standards and Criteria Guidance. The guide was developed to support the implementation of the Yukon Government’s “Policy for Stewardship of Yukon’s Wetlands”.
This guide is intended for:
- Anyone interested in identifying and classifying wetlands in Yukon;
- People whose decisions or actions impact wetlands or their functions; and,
- Educators, landowners, Indigenous land and water guardians, or anyone interested in Yukon’s wetlands.
This guide can be used as:
- A quick reference field guide to assist in identifying and classifying Yukon's wetlands and in understanding their functions and values, including Indigenous Knowledge and value systems;
- A resource for recognizing and describing soil and plant species characteristics of Yukon's wetlands; and,
- Support for extension activities related to community or industry knowledge exchange programs.
